Ayaan Ali Bangash
A young talent of the 7th generation in an unbroken chain of the
Senia Bangash School, Amaan Ali Bangash, born on July 12, 1977 is the elder son and disciple of the
Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan and grandson of the Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan. Initiated
into the fine art of Sarod playing at a very tender age, Amaan began his public
performances as early as ten. Accompanying his father to various music festivals
in India and abroad, he has today, carved out a niche for himself. His
performances have evoked creditable applause. His precision in tunefulness and
his bold and resonant strokes are all pointers to importance of tradition and
continuity in Indian Classical Music.
Born on September 5th, 1979, Ayaan Ali Bangash also represents the seventh
generation of Senia Bangash School. The younger son and disciple of the
Sarod titan Maestro Amjad Ali Khan, Ayaan stepped into the world of music and
the Sarod with confidence, clarity, consistency and technical mastery that he
learnt at his father's knee.
They have
given solo as well as concerts with;their father all over the world. It includes
concerts at the Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, St. James Palace and Barbican
Center. His mother, Subhalakshmi Khan, an artist in her own right, sacrificed
her career as a classical dancer to devote herself to the family and sustain its
heritage. Amaan and Ayaan has experimented with pianist Dominique Brasthasat and
percussionist Jean Bruno Mier and assistedtheir father in the signature tune of
48th International Film Festival.
Awards and accolades came his way early in life yet Amaan steadfastly
pursued his family's inheritance and legacy. His personal belief being that '
his work will speak for itself '. In 1996, he was awarded the Soorya Award in
Trivandrum. A year later the Prime Minister of India awarded him ' The Best
Young Musician of the Year ' award. He has many discs to his credit featuring
his solo and duets. Recently, Amaan was awarded by the Govt. of Orrisa. A
devoted son and disciple, Amaan accords special reverence to both his parents
but more to his mother, Subhalakshmi Khan who gave up her Indian classical dance
Bharatnatyam career to nurture, that of her talented sons.
After giving his solo debut at eight, Ayaan has been performing concerts
world wide ever since.He has given many solo performances and also assisted his
illustrious father at concerts all over the world including a performance at the
Smith Sonian.Bestowed with the 'Best Budding Artist of the Year' award by the
Prime Minister, Ayaan also received the Soorya Award in Trivandrum. Recently,
his solo debut album was released, recorded in the presence of his father and
guru.
From June 2000, Amaan and Ayaan became the first ever classical musicians to
host the biggest musical show in the world called Sa Re Ga Ma for Zee Television
Network. The programme promotes fantastic talents from all over the world
excelling in vocal music and Band Groups.
Since both brothers have been performing now for over fifteen years, they
have made a mark all over India and abroad and have participated in the topmost
music festivals of India and many World Music organisations.
