This outstanding exponent of Bharatnatyam has displayed a
meteoric progree on her way to stardom. Malavika Sarukkai recieved
training from Gurus like K. Kalyanasundaram Pillai, S.K. Rajaratnam, and
Kalanidhi Naraynan. She was also trained in Odissi dance by Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra and Ramani Ranjan Jena.
Right from the 80's, she has participated in major arts
events in India and abroad. Malavika Sarukkai has enriched the traditional
repertoire with her own compositions in nritya and abhinaya. She has also
been acclaimed for her presentations like Krishna Ritu Krida and
Fireflies.Malavika Sarukkai is also the recipient of the Kalaimamani title
from the Tamil Nadu Isai Nataka Manram.

She was the youngest solo dancer to perform at the Queen Elizabeth
Hall, for the Festival of India in London. She has also performed at the
Festivals of India in France, USA, Japan and Switzerland. And the Arts Festival
of Adelaide, the TANZ 90 at Vienna and the Munich Opera stage.
Malavika, has created contemporary presentations that re-invent
the traditional, through simple, yet brilliant choreography. Among her notable
contemporary performances are Krishna Ritu Krida, Fireflies and Khajuraho -
Temples of the Sacred and the Secular.
Malavika's art combines the seemingly
contradictory elements of exploration and precision to create performances that
are marked by grace, energy and technical mastery.
