The United Nations Organisation
It grew out of the alliance of nations throughout
the world against the Nazi germany in World War II.The aims of the organisation
as stated in the charter were to keep peace and, through collective action,
eradicate poverty, illiteracy, disease and chronic ill-health - often the causes
of war.
Since 1948 there have been 49
United Nations peacekeeping operations; 36 of which were created by the Security
Council between 1988 and 1998, 17 UN missions are currently under way, with
14,453 peacekeepers serving in them as of 31 August 1998. Well over 750,000
military and civilian police personnel and thousands of other civilians from 111
countries have served in UN peacekeeping operations.
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC)
It was established when its Charter was formally adopted on December 8, 1985 by the Heads of State or Government of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It provides a platform for the peoples of South Asia to work together in a spirit of friendship, trust and understanding. It aims to accelerate the process of economic and social development in Member States.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO) Established on November 4th, 1946, the purpose is to contiribute to the peace and security by promoting collabaration among nations through education, science and culture in order to further justice, rule of law, and human rights and freedom without distinction of race, sex, language or religion.
United Nations High Commisioner for Refugees(UNHCR)
Established in 1950, it aims at providing international protection for refugees and seeks permanent solution to their problems through voluntary repatriation, migration to other countries or local integration, besides undertaking special humanitarian tasks.

The Common Wealth.
Originally called the British Commonwealth of Nations, it is an organisation of 52 countries and dependenciec loosely joined by a common interest based on having been parts of the british Empire. It is the only organisation other than th Un which forms a microcosmof the world community by bringing together developed and developing countries across the globe.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)
A movement of third world countries, formed during the cold war, it is an alternate bloc of nations which aims at keeping away from Super Power rivalry.it insists on keeping close terms of friendship with all countries and to have frienship and cooperation with both USA and USSR.
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation(NATO)
Created on April 4th 1949, the member nations agreed to settle disputes by peaceful means; to develop their indivudual and collective capacity to resist armed attack on all and regard an attack os one as an attack on all and to take necesary action to repel it.
South East Asia Treaty Organisation.(SEATO)
established on September 8th, 1945 by US, UK, etc to provide for collective defence and cooperation in South East Asia.
League of Arabia.
The Arab League was created on March 22nd, 1945 to strengthen member ties and further promote Arab aspirations.
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
established in 1863, it organises care for the victims of war and enforces the various conventions on wartime practises.
Group of 7 (G-7)
It consistes of the seven wealthiest natons of the world - US, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Italy and Canada. They meet annually and discuss the various economic and political problems of the world.
Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC)
Established in May 1971, it has a membership of 51 including the PLO, the organisation aims to promote Islamic solidarity, cooperation in various areas of national development, endeavour to eliminate racism and to contribut to world peace.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
This Agency which started onJuly 29th 1957, functions under the UN. It is
autonomous, inter-governmental and its guiding principle is "Atoms for Peace".
It promotes peaceful uses of atomis energy and ensures assistance provided by it
and that it is not used for any military purposes.
